An uplifting short film set on the streets of Johannesburg, Street Smart (4 min, RSA, 2024) tells the story of a street kid who discovers the awesome power of a smart idea.
Created by Cape Town indie film maker Tim Greene (Boy Called Twist, Skeem, The Fury), the film is based on actual events and will be released today on Youtube at: https://youtu.be/q_R6_O59MD4
What makes this beautiful crafted and moving film extraordinary is that it was made entirely without cameras, lights, or any crew at all. Part of an exciting new movement known as “real time film making”, it was created inside the Unreal Engine gaming platform.
Director Tim Greene is passionate about exploring the power and potential of new film-making technologies. “Whether it’s using AI text-to-video prompts, or real-time 3D animation, the days of photorealistic filmmaking are approaching fast. It’s both scary and extremely exciting. There’s no stopping it, so the trick is to make sure that you’re on the right side of history!”
